The Medium is (also) the Message
Imagine
The Older Brother from the parable from long ago
Imagine
The Father sends him
To find you
Imagine
The “good news” conveyed
“Here you are. Just where I expected you’d be
Pathetic
Disinherited
Broke
Broken
Workin’ for someone who doesn’t even feed you
Man, he’s angry
His wrath kindled against you like a blazing fire
You deserve to die out here in this wretched land
Die
Alone
Come back? Sure
But not as a son
A servant
A SLAVE
You’ve wasted it
Your life
His money
Listen
I wouldn’t steer you wrong
I’m your brother
(though I think one of us is adopted)
He’s pissed
Exacting
If there is no goat for me
For ME
The firstborn
What do you expect you’d find?
Come back
Sure
But crawl
Prostrate
Worthless
Maybe he’ll put you to work
Use you
If your lucky
Imagine. Imagine the surprise…
Of the Prodigal
Cresting the hill
Seeing the front porch
A figure…
Stands
Begins to walk
Maybe limping with the onset of age
Then…
The Father
Running
Embracing
Weeping
Kissing
“My son, why were you gone for so long?
I sent Good News to you”
“Father”, he replied.
“Some things got lost in translation”

Oh, I love the imagery in that poem. And isn’t that the voice in our head sometimes! Thank you.
